MVR in and out
MVR — My Virtual Rig — is the file format lighting tools use to hand a rig to each other. FlexViz reads one into an empty scene, and writes the scene back out for a console or another previz tool.
An MVR is a zip archive: a scene description, the fixture profiles (GDTF) the rig uses, and the 3D geometry it draws with. Vectorworks, grandMA3, Capture and FlexViz write it, and consoles such as MagicQ read it — each with its own habits.
The pages in this section:
Import an MVR — reading somebody else's show file: layers, fixture types, trusses and scenery, and what the import log tells you.
Export an MVR — choosing the layers, writing the file, and what goes into it.
Sending it to a console — what grandMA3, MagicQ and Capture do with a FlexViz file, and how to check one before the show.
Logs and files — where every import and export is recorded, and where the files are kept.
What crosses, and what does not
- Comes in and goes out
- Fixtures with their number, address, mode and position · layers · hanging positions · truss (as a box on the way out)
- Comes in only
- Scenery and props — stages, risers, video walls — drawn from the file's meshes
- Stays in FlexViz
- Groups, looks, saved views, comments
⚠ Import fills an empty scene. Merging a rig into a scene you have been working in is not possible today, so make a new scene first, then import into it.
