Work together

Collab seats and roles

Two separate things decide what somebody can do in FlexViz. The role says what they may do in the organisation. The collab seat says whether they may edit scenes.

Roles

Owner
Everything an admin can do, and the organisation cannot be left without one. The last owner cannot be removed or demoted
Admin
Invites and removes members, hands out seats, manages project access, shares scenes with clients, locks and releases scenes
Member
Works on the organisation's projects

Somebody's role on one project can differ from their role in the organisation: see Who can reach a project.

Seats

Two seats, both in use: Priya is an admin and still views only

The Members screen (File › Profile… › Members) shows how many seats are in use, and a seat button on each member:

  • Collab seat ✓: they can edit. Clicking it takes the seat away. They keep their role and can no longer edit, from their next save on. If they have the scene open, it turns read-only within seconds and the line under the header says why.

  • No seat — view only: clicking it gives them a seat, as long as one is free. When all are in use, the button is greyed out.

Joining takes a free seat automatically. When none is free, a new member joins view-only; inviting never waits for a seat.

Guests never edit

A seat belongs to a membership of the organisation. A guest, somebody given access to one project without joining the organisation, has none, so a guest never edits, even when they are listed as editor on a project. The project's team list says view only — no collab seat next to them.

How many seats

A new account's own organisation comes with one seat, for its owner. More seats are set by FlexViz support for now: write to hello@flexviz.app.
