Comments
A comment hangs on the thing it is about: a fixture, a truss, a set piece, or the whole scene. It keeps the view it was written from, so whoever reads it sees what you saw.
The speech-bubble button in the header opens the Comments column (also View › Comments). The number on it is how many threads are open. Everyone on the project can read and write comments, viewers included, and a locked scene can still be commented on.
Writing one
What a new comment is about follows the selection. Select exactly one fixture, truss, set piece or piece of scenery, and New comment is about that object. Select nothing, or several things, and it is about the whole scene. Your current view is saved with it.
Every thread is Private or Public, chosen when you write it. Private is the default.
- Private
- You and your team. Clients never see it
- Public
- Also every client shown this scene, through any share of it
Replies follow their thread: there is no private reply in a public thread, and the reply box says so.
Marks in the plan
A commented object carries a speech-bubble mark in every view. In Plan, every object with an open thread shows it, selected or not. Several threads on one object show as one mark with a number.
Resolving the thread is what removes the mark. To hide all marks for yourself, use the speech-bubble button in the toolbar. That is remembered in this browser and changes nobody else's view; the comments stay in the column.
Clicking a mark or a thread takes you to the view it was written from and selects the object.
If the object was deleted, the comment stays, labelled deleted, and its mark is drawn dashed where the object last stood.
Making a thread public, or private again
Whoever started the thread, or anybody who can edit the project, uses Make public… or Make private on the open thread.
Making a thread public shows everything already in it, replies included, so FlexViz asks first.
Making a thread private again cannot unsay it. Clients who read it while it was public may remember it.
Every change is listed in the thread with who made it and when. If somebody else changes yours, you get an email, unless you have the scene open.
Resolving
The person who started a thread can resolve it, and so can anybody who edits the project. Choose Resolve… and, if you like, the version that dealt with it. Only versions somebody named with Mark version appear in that list. Reopen brings a resolved thread back; the Resolved tab lists them.
Comments from clients
Clients comment only if you let them. In Share with client, each invited address has a Comments switch, off by default (Share a scene with a client). A client switched on clicks the light, truss or set piece they mean, or chooses the whole scene, and their note reaches your Comments column at once, marked (client). Switching it off takes effect immediately. Somebody who came in through a forwarded link, without an invitation, can never comment.
What a client sees: the comments they wrote, and every public thread on the scene with your team's replies, including when one was resolved and in which version. Never a private thread of your team or of another client. Other clients appear only as Guest. Clients cannot resolve anything, and they can reply to a public thread only if you let them comment. How it looks on their side: What your client sees.
When somebody comments and you do not have the scene open, you get an email if you took part in that conversation or lead the project. At most one every 10 minutes per scene. The link opens the thread.
