Work together

Editing together, live

Everyone with the scene open edits the same rig at once. A colleague's change appears on your screen a moment later, with no save and no reload.

Jonas is in the scene: his pointer with his name, and his selection outlined in his colour

Who else is here

One picture per colleague, ringed in their colour

The header shows one picture for each colleague in the scene, ringed in their presence colour: the photo, name and colour from their profile in this organisation (Your profile). Hover for the name.

Beside it, the status says how your tab is connected:

Connecting…
The scene opens read-only for a second while it joins the live session, then becomes editable
Live
Editing live with everyone. There is no autosave to wait for: the server saves the scene. Mark version still names a moment (Mark a version)
Offline
The connection is down. Your edits are kept in this tab and sent when it returns. Do not close the tab until it says Live again, or they are lost
Not live
The live session refused this tab. Reload the page; if it persists, your access may have changed

Pointers and selections

In the viewport, a colleague's selection is outlined in their colour, their pointer shows with their name, and an object they drag moves on your screen while they drag it. Your own selection is unaffected: two people can have the same fixture selected.

A pointer and an outline are where somebody is looking, not a lock. A colleague's selection does not stop you editing the same object.

Selections show in the 3D views too

Dragging is the exception. While a colleague drags a truss run or a fixture, it is theirs. Grabbing it tells you who is moving it, and it is yours again the moment they let go.

Somebody else has it in hand

When two people change the same thing

A note appears at the bottom of the editor saying what happened, and goes by itself.

A colleague deleted what you had selected
  • A colleague deleted what you had selected: it stays deleted, and the note says who. Their undo brings it back.

  • Two people patched different fixtures onto one address: the fixture with the lower number keeps it, and the other moves to the next free address in that universe, or is left unpatched if the universe is full. Both people are told the new address. (Two fixtures on one address would blank a MagicQ's whole patch.)

  • A fixture hung on a truss somebody else just deleted stays exactly where it was, no longer hung on anything.

  • A patch, group or coupling made to something a colleague deleted at the same moment is dropped.

Restoring and importing while others are in

  • Restoring a version changes the rig for everyone, live. Nobody's tab reloads; colleagues see a note saying who restored which version, and the person who restored it can undo it. Something a colleague changes at that moment is kept on top.

  • Importing (an MVR into the scene) replaces what everybody sees: their tabs reload the scene, and edits they had not yet sent are lost. Say so before you import.

Access changes reach open tabs

Locking a scene makes it read-only for everybody in it within seconds, and unlocking makes it editable again, without a reload. Taking somebody's seat, changing their role or removing them from the organisation does the same for that person, with a line under the header saying why. Edits they had not sent yet are discarded; edits made just before a lock are kept.

Somebody without a seat, or on a locked scene, still watches live: they see every change as it happens and cannot change anything.

Not the same as sharing

Clients never join the live session. Showing a scene to a client is a separate, read-only presentation with its own waiting room; see Share and present.
